Saltwater School

The Land’s Edge Foundation’s Saltwater School is located on the traditional lands of the Borogegal people, in an area of Chowder Bay / Gooree that is protected by the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust.

Saltwater School facilitates meaningful and impactful outdoor experiences that better the lives of young people and their families.

Saltwater School is a not-for-profit outdoor educational immersion centre that provides specialised group based experiences including guided activities and curriculum based field studies.

Additionally, Saltwater School provides offerings for the general public including school holiday programs, coastal explorer tours and gear hire.

Coastal Explorer

School Holiday Programs

Our study sites situated at Chowder Bay, Balmoral and Bredley's Head provide ideal settings for marine interpretations and enjoyable activities, both on the surface and beneath the waves.

Curriculum Based Field Studies (CBFS)

Full day program 

Our curriculum based field studies cover the subjects of BiologyGeography and Marine Studies:

  • Marine Health and Ecosystems Dynamics; A comparative study of the presence of sea urchins and kelp as an indicator of marine health. This study includes a snorkel session
  • Human Impacts and Plastics Study; A comparative study of the presence of macro and micro plastics as an indicator of our impact on the environment. This study includes a kayak session OR coast walk
  • Marine Health and Human Impacts Study; This combined study demonstrates the interaction between the environment and humans,with students undertaking an adaptation of the two studies described above

Further Information:

  • Our CBFS programs are offered on weekdays during school term
  • Land’s Edge Foundation provides all necessary equipment for each study, including snorkel and kayak equipment, fieldwork booklets, survey materials, risk assessments and safety management plans
  • These studies are designed to be full-day programs and can be arranged as a single day excursion or as part of a larger multi-day outdoor education program
